Against military aggression in Libya The Communist Party of Poland denounces the military intervention in Libya and considers the UN resolution that created its political conditions as outrageous. We express our concern that the UN Security Council - a body that is obliged to protect world peace - has sanctioned military action by the international community in a coup d’état that is taking place in Libya, without appropriate investigation of the situation and its direct causes. We consider that the Libyan “revolution” is nothing more than an attempt to seize power on the part of the governmental establishment and sections of the military who treat people as a tool for achieving their goal. Of course the whole situation would not have taken place without the engagement of external factors, interested in taking control of the natural resources of Libya. We are concerned that it is not the person accused of all the world’s evil, Colonel Muammar al-Gaddafi, who is responsible for the destabilisation of the situation in that country but the external forces, along with sections of Libya's political and military elite acting towards that goal through a series of provocations. This situation is being exploited by some Western countries that see it as an opportunity to rebuild their colonial basis. The attempt to overthrow the government of Al-Baghdadi Ali al-Mahmudi is an attempt to suppress one of the last forces of progress in the Arab world, which has ruled since the Green Revolution. It is often forgotten that this revolution has led Libya to having the status of the richest African country and has ensured its citizens the highest standard of living in the region. Capitalist countries, in the name of their economic and political interests, are ready to destroy everything that the Libyan people have achieved in the last forty years. We do not agree with the further destabilisation of the situation in Libya and with the overthrowing of a legal government. We are also very concerned about the participation in the coup of religious elements and, associated with them, extremist organisations. We appeal to the governments of the world: Reveal your economic interests and stop covering yourselves with alleged concern for the people of Libya and all those who were drawn by you into a bloody civil war, who die every day on both sides of the conflict - a conflict that was not provoked by the Libyan government and is expanding every day, turning into an endless stream of violence. At the same time we point out that similar measures were not taken against Yemen and Bahrain, where anti-government protests are violently suppressed, in the latter even with the participation of foreign military. We categorically denounce making use of the people as an instrument for achieving the political and economic goals of narrow circles of capitalists. CC of CP of Poland 19 March 2011 |
